The value of value based hiring.

Organisations that clearly define their mission, purpose and have values that support them, are well positioned for long term success in a rapidly changing business climate. Why? These companies are clear about why they exist and how they plan to achieve their objectives. They’re well equipped to navigate change and rising expectations from their people, clients and communities.

Expectations are rising. Stakeholders are demanding better business practices and want organisations to be environmentally and socially responsible. In addition to looking for flexible work arrangements / growth opportunities, people want to find purpose and meaning at work.

To achieve their mission and purpose organisations need to have the right people in place. Values aligned to the purpose or mission can help companies to hire the right people. Incorporating values into recruiting efforts, including values-based interview questions / using value assessment tools, helps organisations to hire, and more importantly retain, the right people needed to achieve their purpose or mission with passion and efficiency.

Being transparent about values helps organisations attract people whose personal values align with the company’s. They are then more likely to be creative, inspired and loyal when their values are in sync with the organisation’s values. Misaligned employees find themselves disengaged, resulting in them being less passionate, committed and productive.

In a survey conducted by LinkedIn, 71% of professionals said they would be willing to take a pay cut to work for a company that has a mission they believe in and shared values.

People increasingly want to work for companies that are making a difference for their stakeholders. Company purpose is one of the strongest retention drivers for millennial employees between the ages of 25 - 40. Its estimated that this demographic makes up a large proportion of the global workforce. Retention will improve and recruitment will become easier when organisations activate their purpose or mission because people are more likely to want to work for a company when they understand why their work matters.

At 4zero, we believe that mission and value alignment are essential for successfully recruiting and retaining talent.
